Topography
| Route |
The full tour of the Tauern Cycle Path is 280 km in length
(Krimml - Bruck - Salzburg - Zell am See/Bruck).
Mostly gently downhill as you drop in elevation from 1076 m in Krimml, to 425 m in Salzburg. There are only two uphill stages - both along the mid Salzach river (Schwarzach, Werfen). |
| Counterclockwise |
| We recommend tackling this tour in a counterclockwise direction. Approximately one quarter of the route consists of a surface of fine sand, while the rest is paved. |
| 90 Percent Cycle Paths |
| Over 90 % of the tour is along cycle paths or low-traffic side roads. As a consequence, lightweight touring bikes and trekking bikes are ideal. Mountain bikes make it possible to enjoy additional side trips through alpine terrain. The route is only minimally suitable for racing bikes. |
